Please, be so kind to forgive me my bad english. Here's an overview of what is happening in the detention centers of Schiphol Airport and Rotterdam in the Netherlands at the moment. During a noise demo on the 5th of May, we managed to get in touch with people inside and they told us that a group of more then 20 refugees had started a hungerstrike since the 1st of May. We published the news. After we did so, the management of Schiphol started extreme pressure on the refugees to break the hungerstrike. People were thrown in isolation cells that were too cold, where they only had a matrass and a blanket, no clothes or underwear, but only a tear shirt, bright lights constantly on 24/7. People were threatened with more measures, independent doctors were denied access to the detention centre. One person was, in reaction to his participation with the hungerstrike, about to be deported to a country that was not even his country of origin, but we managed to stop the deportation by pressuring the air company and threatening them with publicity and charges. On the 6th of May, a vaste group of refugees started a hunger and thirststrike in detention center Rotterdam. Nessar, the spokesman of the group of more then 100 refugees of different departments in the centre, managed to force an agreement with the CEO's that people in hungerstrike would not be put in isolation cells. The agreement was supported by the Union of Refugee Lawyers. But in the night of the 9th of May, Nessar was suddenly transferred to a department with only empty cells. He was able to give an update by phone and told us that the cell was kept too cold on purpose, that he didn't have his own clothes at his disposition and that he was locked in isolation of the others of the group. In the meantime, the other refugees in hunger and thirststrike were seriously put under pressure, by threatening with isolation cells or immediate deportation. The Ministry of Safety and Justice stated by press release that 'the vast majority of the group gave up the protest'. The 'independent doctor' that visited the hungerstriking refugees turned out to be owner of a private company providing doctors to detention centers. The team of real independent doctors were denied access, according to the management of the detention centre because the refugees had stated that they didn't want another doctor. We have spoken several refugees inside who clearly stated that they didn't trust the medical team of the detention centre and that they needed another team. On Saturday the 11th of May, the situation of Nessar, the isolated thirststriker, became critical, as his kidneys showed signs of failure. He signed a declaration saying that, even if he would lose consciousness, he did not give permission to be hospitalize or to be administered artifical nutrition or medication. In reaction, the management ordered the guards to keep him awake at night, which is a well known torture method. Despite his declaration, Nessar was transferred to a medical penitentiary today, against his will. Here, he will be force-fed, even if force-feeding is considered as torture. Not once did the management of the detention centres showed any willingness to talk about the demands of the refugees: freedom and protection. Not once did the Ministry respond to the clear protest of the refugees: we are not criminals and we don't want to be treated as criminals. The main stream media ignores the facts about detention practices and minimalizes the hungerstrikes. In the meantime, the calls on the alarm phone keep coming in. Refugees tell us how medical care is systematically denied, how they are thrown in isolation cells for a week - even for a simple thing as sharing your food with your cellmate. How they are locked in their own cells for three days, just for questioning the utterly racist behaviour of the guards. We have spoken to several people who came to the Netherlands with legal papers, but who were thrown in jail anyway, or who have seen their residence permit being withdrawn with no apparent reason. The majority of the people we have spoken to in the last week has children and see their families torn apart, for more then a year because of detention of one of the parents, or even permanently because one of the parents is deported. Migrant detention can last up to one year and a half in the Netherlands. The 'reasons' to be put in isolation cell are numerous and the number of time people are put in isolation is hardly registered. Isolation cells only have a matrass, a camera and a toilet. People only have a tear shirt and are not allowed to wear underwear. The cells are too cold, by the use of ventilators directed to the matrasses. The lights are not turned off at night. Visitations are standard procedure. A woman who was raped in her country of origin and refused visitation, was visitated by force, one leg fixed by a chain, by a male guard - thus raped again. Refugees who need medical care in a hospital are often not transported to the hospital. If they are allowed to visit the hospital, it will be hand and anckle cuffed. No information is given to the refugees inside about their procedures. One can be kept for months, be deported without the lawyer having the time to start a procedure or be kicked out on the streets - apparently random. A TV journalist asked me this week to describe the situation inside detention centres in one word. I said: a modern concentration camp. He was all indignified - how could I dare to compare the horrors of the Second World War with the situation right now, knowing that hideous things happened in concentration camps. I said, because hideous things happen right now, right here. Besides the fact that the whole country is covered by cams, a large number of municipalities now have drones surveilling from 6pm untill 5am. No, I'm not kidding. Activists face serious repression. One of us was convicted to four months of prison, just for publishing texts on the internet. We, the Deportation Resistance group, are under close surveillance - and then I really mean close surveillance; my children and visitors are followed and ID checked. Please, show solidarity, in whatever way. Kick ass at the Dutch embassies or do whatever you think might be a good idea. Dutch authorities apparently decided to take a leading role in fascist policies in Europe and this is getting completely out of hand here. In solidarity,

Europol takes on the task of "terrorism" that is to say "Anarchism"
Kas;
Against the criminalization of the no border network via EUROPOL! "The EU's police agency should not be allowed to get involved in political altercations between the EU Member States. Any attempt by Europol to concern itself with antimilitaristic, transport policy, environmental policy or antiracist campaigns is going beyond its mandate," said Bundestag Member Andrej Hunko in criticism of a related response from the Federal Government. According to meeting minutes of the Council Working Party on "Terrorism", Europol is holding a conference on "anarchism" on 25 April. The focus of the conference is said to be on how to deal with attacks by the Italian anarchist federation FAI. However, the agenda also foresees discussions on the no border network and the issue of "resistance to railway networks". When Andrej Hunko requested further details, the Federal Government specified that the conference was on "left-wing extremism and terrorism" and alleged "attacks on rail transportations". Andrej Hunko went on to say: "I am utterly opposed to the criminalisation of international activists. On the contrary, I am delighted that resistance to senseless large-scale projects like Stuttgart 21 and the TAV high-speed railway in Italy is increasingly being organised across national borders - especially since these projects are supported by the European Union and incorporated into EU transport infrastructure planning. As was the case with successful summit protests, international left-wing networking is criminalised. Last year, the Federal Ministry of the Interior used the sending of "letter bombs" to justify the international exchange of undercover police agents on the occasion of the G8 summit in Heiligendamm. According to the Federal Government, the conference on "anarchism" is a workshop for delegates from those countries that participate in Europol's Dolphin analysis work files. These feature dossiers on individuals and objects concerning "extremist" and "terrorist" activities. The inclusion of left-wing activism in this category serves merely to defame left-wing activists and organisations. This is particularly the case with regard to Europol's interest in the no border network, whose fight against racism and militarisation on the external borders of the EU is absolutely essential in the EU Member States. I therefore call upon the Federal Government to actively oppose the equalisation of left-wing activism with "terrorism" and "extremism". I also demand full information about contributions made to the conference by the police forces of EU Member States. International left-wing movements must be treated with respect and appreciation." Download the Federal Government's response at: http://www.andrej-hunko.de/start/download/doc_download/214-treffen-zu-anarchismus-bei-der-eu-polizeiagentur-europol-im-april-2012 (in German)

Launch of Frontex Observatory!
PRESS RELEASE: Launch of Frontex Observatory – 26 March 2012 www.statewatch.org/frontex Established in 2006 by Regulation 2004/2007, Frontex is the European Agency for the Management of the External Borders of the European Union. It coordinates and co]organises with Member States high]tech border control operations at sea, land and air external borders of the EU, and carries out joint return flights of irregular migrants. Its mandate was revised in 2011. Since its inception, Frontex has been criticised for its lack of transparency and accountability. Statewatch’s Frontex Observatory will analyse and document the role and activities of Frontex It provides a unique source of understanding of the Agency’s operations and activities, bringing together legal, political, analytical documents from a variety of sources. Regularly updated, the Observatory allows for a contextualised understanding of Frontex’s development over the years and throws light on the main issues at stake with regards to civil liberties and fundamental rights. Divided into six sections, the Observatory will be particularly useful to researchers, civil society organisations, academics, students, journalists, lawyers, and parliamentarians. • What is Frontex’s exact mandate? All decisions constituting the legal framework of the Agency’s activities, including a unique consolidated version of the amended 2004/2007 Regulation, are available in this section. • Official documentation: Current and ongoing official documentation regarding Frontex by the European Commission, the Council of the European Union, the European Parliament, the European Data Protection Supervisor, the Ombudsman, the Council of Europe and court decisions. •News: A selection of news articles examining the work and activities of Frontex • Analysis and opinion: The Agency has been playing a central role in the EU’s border management since its inception and has therefore been under the close scrutiny of many institutions and civil society organisations looking at the civil liberties and human rights aspects of its work (data protection, use of force, interception and deportation of migrants). •Other EU policy areas involving Frontex: Frontex was given increasing powers and plays a significant role in the implementation of different security policies and measures developed in this section (e.g. establishment of the European borders surveillance system EUROSUR; Internal Security Strategy). •Frontex publications: The Observatory facilitates access to Frontex’s documents, some of them not being available on its website. Nu blir det ordning! - åtminstone i hemlighet

News: from Frontex land
Frontex – new customer for the arms industry
Last week the European Parliament voted largely in favour of a
stronger mandate for Frontex, the EU border control agency. One of the
changes is that Frontex is now allowed to buy or lease its own
equipment, such as patrol boats and helicopters. New opportunities for
the defense industry!
Before Frontex was completely depending on EU member states for the
provision of its equipment. While its new European Border Guard Teams
will still consist of national border guards personnel provided by
member states, having its own equipement means Frontex will now be
more independent, with greater freedom to act. Frontex also gets an
additional 24 million euro – on top if its 88,4 million euro budget
for 2011 - to step up maritime surveillance.
The extra funding and the expanded mandate of Frontex come in response
to complaints by member state governments and right-winged politicians
about its alleged inefficiency in stopping migration to Europe, and
the call for strengthening of the EU's external borders.
The increasing militarisation of border security, as well as growing
overlap of defense and security matters – not only in the EU - makes
this a rapidly growing market for the industry. Major profiteers
include European defense company EADS, which provided communication
equipment to both the Bulgarian and Romanian border guards and is
involved in a major Saudi border patrol project. Other well-known
defense companies have also moved into the border security business:
Boeing is building a network of watchtowers to guard the US-Mexican
border, Lockheed Martin has its own Border Enforcement Solutions
Center and Thales is involved in EFFISEC, a border security research
project financed under the EU Seventh Framework Program (FP7).
Now that Frontex can has its own procurement budget, new profit
opportunities arise.
Meanwhile, Frontex operations, and EU asylum policies in general, are
severely criticised by Human Rights Watch (HRW) and Amnesty
International. Just this week HRW launched its new report: 'The EU's
Dirty Hands: Frontex involvement in ill-treatment of migrant detainees
in Greece', in which it states “that Frontex activities in Greece do
not meet the standards set out in the EU’s Charter of Fundamental
Rights, by which Frontex is bound.”
It is very hard to believe that the installation of “a dedicated
fundamental rights officer, to ensure that EU border checks respect
human rights” will change much in this matter. After the vote in the
European Parliament Ska Keller of the Greens said: “The measures
adopted today to improve the guarantee of human rights on Frontex
missions are half-hearted and unconvincing. At least 1,500 people have
already died this year on Europe's borders and, against this
background, it is not acceptable that human rights protection should
be an afterthought for the EU's border agency.”
Frontex' sole purpose is to keep as many refugees out of the EU as
possible, meanwhile disregarding human rights and overlooking the
reasons why people feel the need to escape their home countries. As
German MEP Cornelia Ernst (Die Linke) stated in the debate about the
new Frontex mandate: “We don't need Frontex but a humanized refugee
policy to deal with situations in Africa where people are living in
dire conditions, an asylum system based on solidarity and a new
neighbourhood policy more in tune with our values.”

calais - and the professionals

After initially breaking on Rue89 the French media Channel TF1 has just
released a video composed of several clips from the work of CMS. The
police are shown pepper-spraying, being violent, abusive and
unprofessional. This video combines several already high profile clips
including the police playing loud music whilst raiding Africa House at
night and the PAF punching an activist holding a video camera. A CMS
activist talks to a radio interviewer about working on the ground in
Calais and the use of video cameras in DE-escalating violence towards
migrants. A police spokesperson also attempts to claim that the police are
highly professional whilst a clip of them playing football during a squat
raid runs in the background.

Declaration of solidarity with the hunger strikers in Greece by Welcome to Europe Network
“We are migrant men and women from all over Greece. We came here due to poverty, unemployment, wars and dictatorships. The multinational companies and their political servants did not leave another choice for us than risking 10 times our lives to arrive in Europe’s door. […] We came to Greece and we are working to support ourselves and our families. We live without dignity, in the darkness of illegalness so that employers and state's services can benefit from the harsh exploitation of our labour. We live from our sweat and with the dream, some day, to have equal rights with our Greek fellow workers. […] The answer to the lies and the cruelty has to be given now and it will come from us, from migrant men and women. We are going in the front line, with our own lives to stop this injustice. We ask the legalization of all migrant men and women, we ask for equal political and social rights and obligations with Greek workers.”
(Assembly of migrant hunger strikers, January 2011)
It is not a particular Greek situation that the hunger strikers are denouncing. It is the effect of the European policy of bordering and exclusion. Accessing European territory is often a deadly venture. Refugees and migrants are not welcome in Europe, and fences, border guards and agencies, detention camps and deportation schemes have proliferated only to keep the unwanted at distance. But the dreams and the desires of the unwanted are stronger and enable many to scale the borders. The presence of a migrant population in Europe is a reality and they have come, and are coming to stay.
However, it is not only the fences and borders that are directed against these coming citizens of Europe. In a Europe that promised a homogeneous landscape of rights to its citizens in any country of the Union, non-European migrants often find themselves to be second-class citizens, or even outright excluded from political and social rights at large. This creates an exploitable labour force and a disadvantaged and disenfranchised part of the population. By creating such conditions, Europe profits from the products of migrant labour. In the Southern countries of the EU, the agricultural sector is heavily dependent on migrant labour, while all over Europe, migrants form the backbone of many service industries that are taken for granted.
But we are talking about human beings, with dreams and hopes, with plenty of reasons to go and to move. But as they arrive in Europe, they find themselves deprived of their rights as human beings, at the mercy of an asylum system, and at the fringes of society. It is exactly this social exclusion and disfranchisement, it is the lack of political and social rights that leads to the often unbearable conditions that are then denounced as the "migration problem", used to justify repression, further exclusion, and deportation.
Migration is neither a crime nor a problem, but the European Union's response is criminal and highly problematic. The 2008 European Pact on Immigration and Asylum has cemented this inhuman policy pursued for many years. While mentioning necessary advances in asylum and legal migration legislation, it has foremost served as a political initiative to harden the borders, further exclusion and deportation and is a declaration of war on migration. It lengthily talks about the solidarity between the EU member states, but it robbed especially the southern states of the only sensible answer to migration: it contains an explicit ban on collective legalisation.
The hunger strikers in Greece have decided to struggle for their rights, and rightly so. In a climate of increased repression and anti-migrant rhetoric, we have to act. Not only in Greece, all over Europe and indeed all over the world, we need to struggle for equal rights for everybody. We express our explicit solidarity with the hunger strikers in Greece, and we call to activists all over Europe to join the cause for a complete and unconditional legalisation.
We call for a week of action from the 7th to the 13th of February 2011 in solidarity with the hunger strikers!
Legalisation now!
Equal rights now!
For the abolition of borders!

One day before the memorial of the assassination of Alexandros Grigoropoulos on December 6th, the Greek democratic dictatorship decided to activate in a tragicomic way its repression mechanisms in order to prevent the upcoming uprising of the society. All the regime’s servants are on the alert trying to manipulate the public opinion and terrorize the parts of the society that resist.
Yesterday night (December 4th), the scums of the anti-terrorist squad raid into various apartments and social spaces in Athens, Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Agrinio and Crete claiming that weaponry was found. The well-paid state media puppets set up feasts for the cop’s “success against terrorism”, producing hysteria and terror. After 24 hours it was announced that the weaponry found have never been used in any attacks.
After a full day of deliberate lack of information, in the evening of December 5th the police gave in publicity the names and the photos of the 6 persons arrested in Athens, Piraeus and Crete, asking “citizens” for more information… For the 2 of the 6 arrested persons, there were arrest warrants for the “Conspiracy of Cells of Fire” case.
The same night in Thessaloniki, secret cops and hooded cops of the anti-terrorist squad raid into the occupied anti-authoritarian space “Nadir” which is located in the students residence of Thessaloniki’s University. They seized papers and computers, beat the people inside, while they went on numerous detains and 11 arrests. Dozens of people in solidarity gathered outside the place. The cop’s raid followed after an attack to a private security guardhouse inside the University campus.
Also, cops blockaded streets in Agrinio, near the anarchist “Agrinio Haunt”. The electricity went off in the whole house block with the excuse of the “anti-terrorism raids”.
Junta banned the basic right of the detained and the arrested to contact with their lawyers for more than 24 hours.
Τhe announcement of the defense counsel of one of the allegedly arrested is characteristic:
“What with certainty so far has been disarticulated are the procedural rights of the detainees and to communicate with relatives and advocates. The absolute prohibition on the exercise of their fundamental rights, upon the completion of nearly 24 hours after their arrest, and the denial of confirmation of the names of the detainees, borders on rapture. Contempt is complemented by the usual method of selective leaks and communication manipulation of public opinion. And if all these are happening under the cover of the public prosecutor’s office, the coincidence of the mechanisms of repression not concerning protection, but in the abolition of the legal and constitutional order, is confirmed.
One day before the completion of two years of the murder of Alexis Grigoropoulos, and while the whole society is in turmoil and is being prepared for mobilizations, the guilty State obviously needs to atone, to present successes and mainly to legitimize the authoritarianism which is being prepared for tomorrow’s anniversary.
Zero tolerance! No political and communication intentionality over rights and freedoms!
Athens, 5 of December of 2010, 12.00
The defense counsel of one of the alleged detainees”
Apart from the yesterday’s raids, detains and arrests, state went on an another pre-emptive move prohibiting the passage of vehicles in the whole center of Athens (!), because of tomorrow’s demonstration on December 6th. In particular, the vehicles passage will stop from 10am on December 6th till 7am on December 7th, while the parking in central Athens is prohibited from 6am of December 6th till 7am on December 7th as you can see on the picture.
The students community and many anarchists/anti-authoritarian and far-left organizations are calling for gathering/demo in Propylea, central Athens. There are calls for demonstrations in more than 20 cities throughout Greece.
